Tom Hurst has served as director on the Amherstburg Freedom Museum’s board for several of the past years and has the distinction as being the first recipient of the Mac Simpson Award in 1968.
His commitment and services as a director of the board are commendable. He has offered his company service to replace the floors within the Museum building on both floors with help from local students from General Amherst High School, imparting valuable knowledge and providing an opportunity for local youth from the community to get involved in the museum.
His dedication to the museum also extends to his service as a maintenance person; whether trimming trees, securing fences, repairing floors or fixing plaster around the windows in the church. Tom can be counted on to always be there to help when called upon.
In 2017 he was honoured by the Museum with an award for lifetime service, and also honoured by the Town of Amherstburg with a Canada 150th CanDo medal.
