Centuries of Progress: A Celebration of Black History Month with the Amherstburg Freedom Museum and River Bookshop

Join the River Bookshop and the Amherstburg Freedom Museum for a variety of amazing events throughout the month of February celebrating Black History Month!

  • Thursday, February 1st at 5:30pm – Book Launch: Amherstburg Book Launch for Black Activist, Black Scientist, Black Icon: The Autobiography of Dr. Howard D. McCurdy with Dr. George Elliott Clarke and Dr. Brenda McCurdy, with Moderator Sheila Barker – at Amherstburg Freedom Museum – FREE 
  • Saturday, February 3rd at 3pm – WSO Family Concert – at Amherstburg Freedom Museum, Nazrey A.M.E. Church – ticket price $5 
  • Saturday, February 10th from 2pm – Youth Art Class with Dennis K. Smith – location: dKs Studio & Gallery 1130 Minto Avenue LaSalle – FREE, but registration limited to 15 people; email curator@amherstburgfreedom.org or visit amherstburgfreedom.org  
  • Saturday, February 17th at 2pm – Panel Discussion: A Conversation about Women’s Empowerment and Community Engagement, with Irene Moore Davis, Shantelle Browning-Morgan, Rose Anguiano Hurst, Kaitlyn Ellsworth, and Leslie McCurdy, with Moderator Cari-Lynn Ristic – at Amherstburg Freedom Museum – FREE
